Company: MOSAYK, Raleigh, NC Type of business: Fashion Designing & Marketing Founded: 1998 Personal Motto: "He that humbleth himself, shall be exalted. He that exalted himself, shall be abased" Luke 14:11 How did you start? I always knew I wanted to have my own business, and my parents pushed me to be the best in anything I do. So, I began with a clothing company named Mosayk, and later developed Jamdon Global Connections as a parent company to run Mosayk and other ventures. My start-up cash came from years of hard work and saving. I mowed lawns, washed cars, sold candy, etc., anything to make money. I initially began with $600. I started the clothing company with my best friend, Kerris R. Lee, who now works on my team for Mosayk Clothing Company. What influenced you to start at such a young age? I saw that there were a lot of young people making major moves in the hip-hop world and other industries. This pushed me at the age of 14 to start making some of my own moves. Also, people like Russell Simmons, Bob Johnson, Sean "Puffy" Combs, and the guys from FUBU, influenced me to strive for success. The tough road: The hardest part is dealing with the adults who don't take me seriously enough to invest in my business. The best part: I like having the opportunity to meet celebrities and other business people. In five years...I want people to see that with the clothing line and production division, we aren't just trying to build a brand name, but trying to build a company that will serve the needs and wants of a global community. Next steps: To get major investors to help further the reach of Mosayk. Advice to aspiring entrepreneurs: Work hard for what you want, and never let anybody tell you that you're too young to start your own business. |
